So I woke up on a concrete slab in a cemetery, and I packed up all the food I had and continued toward the sea.
I walked down through the city where the people used to live.
And the sun climbed in a hazy sky, casting amber rays on the crumbling buildings left behind when the people went away:
A ghost town rotting on the shore of a blackened lake.

If I write it down, will anyone remember?

There's a heavy stillness broken only by the pounding waves on an unyielding expanse of sand, lifeless and grey.
Empty vessels on the shoreline, hulls rusting away with holes.
But there's something lurking underneath the surface, vague and slow:
A dark shape rising up from deep below.

It's surreal, and you're sounding desperate waterlogged screams as your sink to the bed, and you say

And you stare into an eye so red, and a voice says
"How many corpses do you have to see before you believe that everyone's dead?"

Did you ever feel the sensation of a rusted harpoon tearing into your flesh
when it's pulling you up into the tangled black mass of a fisherman's net, and you say
"No, this can't be happening! This is impossible!"

As you gasp and sputter for breath - You've been captured by a ravenous crew who want to hasten your death.
They will feed on your carcass, then eat all of your friends until no one is left.
You'll never understand. You'll never suffer this. It is impossible.

Until you look into my eyes, and then you see you're just like me.
How do you cope when everyone close to you dies?

A struggle to keep your head above the surface.
It's pulling you down; that must be rough!
Kicking and screaming with no assistance must be rough.
